Treatment for Combat PTSD and Tinnitus
Study in San Antonio offers treatment that could help those with both disorders

Are you a combat veteran suffering from both PTSD and tinnitus, the perception of ringing or buzzing in the ears, or other sounds, when there is no actual external sound to hear? You are not alone, because they are two of the most common combat-related disorders.

A research study in San Antonio is offering treatment at no charge for military veterans, ages 18-60, who deployed after 9/11 who have both tinnitus and PTSD. Participants receive six weeks of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a leading treatment for PTSD. One of the goals of the study is to determine whether CPT also helps to alleviate distress caused by tinnitus. Participants also have an opportunity to improve treatment by undergoing painless functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to help advance understanding of the areas of the brain in need of healing in people with PTSD and tinnitus and how CPT helps improve brain health.

Are you a service member or veteran who has previously received medication treatment for PTSD? And are you still experiencing any of these symptoms?
--Feeling jumpy or always on edge--Loss of interest in regular activities
--Haunting memories, nightmares, or flashbacks--Mood swings or irritability
--Desire to avoid trauma reminders--Noises in the ears such as ringing or buzzing
